Midwest heart, LA spirit

I grew up in the Detroit-metro area, so Coney Dogs and the Red Wings will always be dear to my heart. From there I began my multi-media adventure, getting a BA at Western Michigan University in Broadcast/Cable Production while working as a rock radio DJ, then began my MA at Hawai’i Pacific University in Honolulu and worked at PBS. I continued to DJ back in Michigan, hosting a morning show, then DJ’d on a a pop station in Detroit, where I also started teaching radio at Specs Howard School of Media Arts. My parallel journey of teaching while creating began, and I found adventure and fulfillment in both. I completed my Master’s Degree in Filmmaking/Media Culture and Society at DePaul University in Chicago while producing tv, then headed to the only place in the world that made sense to me: Los Angeles. Since landing in LA, I’ve been producing, editing, and directing documentary film and unscripted television. I taught as an adjunct at Santa Monica College simultaneously, and now am bringing it all together as a full-time Professor of Cinema and Television at Los Angeles City College.
